They say ‘Eyes are the gate to the soul.’ Deep, perfectly shaped eyes have been the beauty sign and inspiration for many. Many people have been using cosmetics and make up products to pop their eyes. As years go by, eyelids age and sagging begins. Daily cosmetic products promise miracles, but are the results permanent?

Severely sagging skin around the eye does not only cause appearance problems, also vision problems. Cosmetic procedures may be a solution up to a year, but Blepharoplasty can be a permanent solution compared to a year.

WHAT IS BLEPHAROPLASTY?

Blepharoplasty is a surgery that removes excess skin from the eyelids. The muscles that support eyelids gets weak by age and eyelids stretch. Excess skin gathers above and below the eyelids. Sagging also causes peripheral vision problems. Although Blepharoplasty is performed for appearance concerns most of the times, patients’ vision is improved after the procedure.

Blepharoplasty can be performed under local or general anesthesia. Upper and lower lids can be fixed at the same time or separately.

For upper eyelids, incision is cut along the fold of the eyelid, fat and excess skin is removed.

For lower eyelids, incision is cut cut just below the lashes in your eye's natural crease or inside the lower lid.

Scars fade away in a couple months after the blepharoplasty.

WHO ARE THE RIGHT CANDIDATES FOR BLEPHAROPLASTY?

People who have:

            Crow’s feet lines around the lower eyelids

            Baggy or droopy upper eyeldis

            Bags under the eyes

            Excess skin on the eyelids (Sagging)

            Vision problems due to sagging on the eyelids

Age Limit:

            Anyone in 20’s and above can have blepharoplasty.

IS BLEPHAROPLASTY SURGERY PERMANENT?

Blepharoplasty can be expected to last up to 10 years. The patient should follow up the instructions for a long lasting result.

RECOVERY AFTER BLEPHAROPLASTY SURGERY

The patient should follow skin and wound care instructions by the doctor. Keeping the elevated while sleeping is very important..

Pain, swelling, numbness, and bruising are normal for 1 to 2 weeks. Dry eyes is the most common problem during recovery period. Also blurry vision may occur on the first week after surgery. Patient should use icepacks (cool compress), and eye drops.

Similar to other facial procedures, patient must wear clothes that fasten in the front, and avoid the ones  that are pulled over the head. 

The patient should avoid make up and other cosmetics, also wear sunglasses to protect the eyes from direct sunlight and the wind.

The patient can go back to daily life in 2 weeks. It may take up to 8 weeks to see the full results.

Medicine given by the doctor should be used to prevent infection and other symptoms.

CAN BLEPHAROPLASTY BE DONE WITH OTHER PROCEDURES?

Yes, it  is possible to perform blepharoplasty with other surgeries like face-lift, neck-lift, brow-lift.

Cost of the operation is determined after the consultation and the analysis. Sometimes

more than one procedure can be applied to a patient, depending on the needs. Some patients may need other procedures with blepharoplasty. In order to get
